Protect your PMS with a second layer of security

Protect your business and hotel data by preventing account breaches with Multi-Factor Authentication in Preno.

In the fast-paced world of hospitality, your focus is on your guests. But behind the scenes, you’re managing sensitive data — and that makes your business a target.

A single stolen password is all it takes for a cyber-attack to disrupt operations, damage your reputation, and cost you money. It’s no longer a question of if you’ll face a threat, but when.

That’s why Preno provides Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) to help secure your account.

What is Multi-Factor Authentication?

Think of MFA as a high-security lock for your Preno account that requires two different keys to open.

A regular password is just one key. With MFA, login requires:

  1. Something you know
    Your password.
  2. Something you have
A temporary code generated by an authenticator app on your phone.

This second step creates a powerful security layer. Even if someone steals your password, they still can’t access your account without your phone.

Why MFA is your best defense

Passwords alone are no longer enough to protect your systems. They can be guessed, reused, or stolen in large-scale data breaches.

Security experts widely agree that Multi-Factor Authentication is one of the most effective ways to prevent account compromise.

Microsoft reports that MFA can prevent over 99.9% of account-based attacks.

Imagine a phishing email tricks a team member into giving up their login details.

Without MFA, a hacker could instantly access your Preno account — potentially viewing guest information, changing pricing, or locking your team out of the system.

With MFA enabled, that stolen password becomes useless because the attacker doesn’t have the authentication code generated on your team member’s phone.

How to set up MFA in Preno

Enabling Multi-Factor Authentication takes just a few minutes.

Before starting, download an authenticator app on your smartphone, such as:

  • Google Authenticator
  • Microsoft Authenticator

(If you already use MFA with tools like Xero, you can likely use the same app.)

To enable MFA:

1️⃣ Go to your profile in the Preno dashboard
2️⃣ Find the Multi-Factor Authentication section
3️⃣ Click Setup MFA and follow the prompts
4️⃣ Scan the QR code with your authenticator app
5️⃣ Enter the verification code to confirm setup

Make sure your team is protected

You can also check that your team members have enabled this extra protection.

Navigate to:

Settings → User Management

Look for the green MFA label next to user accounts.

If your account has access to features like revealing stored card details, MFA may already be mandatory for enhanced security.
