Hope for hoteliers: Cook Islands + New Zealand travel bubble
This week, Jacinda Ardern announced the opening of the Cook Islands + New Zealand travel bubble – a two-way, quarantine-free bubble, which will open soon, on the 17th of May.
This, paired with the recent Australia + New Zealand (Trans-Tasman) travel bubble, we couldn’t be more pleased (and relieved) for hoteliers in these regions.
Jacinda Ardern shared the positive projections this travel bubble is expected to have for the tourism and hospitality industries of the Cook Islands.
“Two-way quarantine-free travel is a significant step in both countries’ Covid-19 recovery, and a direct result of both New Zealand and the Cook Islands’ successful response to the pandemic.”
– Jacinda Ardern, Prime Minister of New Zealand
A milestone we should all be proud of, and a critical lifeline for the Cook Islands tourism industry
With the very recent Australia + New Zealand (Trans-Tasman) travel bubble opening up, we are already seeing amazing results for hoteliers across the two countries. We are now thrilled that we can soon see similar results for the Cook Islands’ – particularly, as they have been completely cut off, and unable to welcome domestic travellers, like New Zealand and Australia have been fortunate to have.
This safe flight bubble shows great hope for the Cook Islands tourism and hospitality industries, and shows a step in the right direction, says our CEO, Amelia Gain – a journey of recovery.
“We’re really pleased for Cook Island operators who have seen over a year of no business. It’s exciting to see resorts opening up and jobs coming back – this is another step forward in tourism bouncing back.”
– Amelia Gain, CEO of Preno
Our customers are already seeing an influx in occupancy rates, and we couldn’t be more excited for them
“We are thrilled to see the borders opening and a flooding of bookings and enquiries. We look forward to welcoming people back to our beautiful island.”
– Resort Manager, Etu Moana, Cook Islands
